Button front shirts were worn by workmen in the 1920's as the first layer on the skin. Dress shirts were usually worn over a long sleeve or a short sleeve version of a button placket shirt. This 1927 Henley is thinner than Pike Brother's 1954 Utility Shirt and smoother inside, so it is easier on the skin and cooler. Ideal to wear it under a shirt or in summer as the only layer.
